So often when trying something new, we need to know what to expect. Here are the most Frequently Asked Questions in my Aerial Yoga Class.
What is Aerial Yoga?
Feeling the freedom of soaring above the earth and elevating the mind to higher levels of conciousness is what connects me to this modern art form. The level of satisfaction my students recieve from stepping into the unknown and succeeding with ease keeps me teaching day in and day out. In a class, students will be lead through a flow of yoga poses with assistance from the hammock. Some poses allow a deeper stretch, while some offer the chance to build more strength. At the height of each class, students recieve an opportunity to hang upside down allowing for better spinal health, cleansing of the lymphatic system and an overall sense of euphoria.
What should I bring to class?
A mat, some water and a towel! If you have your own hammock, bring it as well! Please leave your cell phone in the car or turn it to silent.
What do I need to know about caring for my aerial yoga hammock?
The aerial fabric can fade in the sunlight, so keep it in a dark place when you are not using it. Don’t wear any jewelry, velcro or other materials that could snag the fabric. When it’s time to wash your hammock, set the cycle to delicate and cool. Once it is washed, you will be able to pull the knots out of the fabric. Put it in the dryer on the lowest setting to avoid heat damage. Youtube video coming soon how to tie the hammock.
What class should I register for as a beginner?
All classes on the schedule are geared towards the students in the class. You set your pace, you control your body and you decide if you need a break. You should feel good doing yoga, so listen to your body and don’t push yourself too hard.
How much weight can the hammock hold?
Our hammocks could hold up a car!
Are you sure the Yoga Hammock will hold me?
Every portion of the silk yoga swing is rated for over 2000 pounds.
What should I wear?
Wear something you feel comfortable in. Yoga pants or capris with a tank top or work out shirt. Please nothing with velcro or buttons to snag the fabric. Please trim and file your nails to prevent ripping the fabric.Taking a shower is reccomended before class to keep the hammocks fresher longer.
Should I eat before class?
Try to eat clean the day of an aerial yoga class. Drink a lot of water before and after. You are getting a deep tissue massage, chiropractic session and a yoga class in one so we reccomend keeping away from toxins 24 hours prior. We like to eat cinnamon apple oats with walnuts for breakfast, a big green, colorful salad for lunch and a banana with peanut butter an hour before class! Skip the coffee and enjoy a tea instead!
What if I get motion sickness?
If you get motion sickness or sea sick, aerial yoga may not be for you. If you still really want to try it, take your medicine as directed by your physician.
Is there anyone you reccomend to NOT do aerial yoga?
Some issues can prevent someone from doing aerial yoga, like glaucoma, epilepsy, high or low blood pressure, pregnancy, heart disease, recent surgery, osteoporosis, arthritis, stroke, recent concussion, artificial hips and a cold. Some reccomend skipping inversion while menstruating, but there is much controversy on the topic. Always consult with your physician before trying any new physical exercise routine.
